Gas Service Call
Gas Service Calls Wellington Wide
We do gas service calls, and repairs in Wellington for a wide range of gas appliances. We can get parts for a lot of appliances but once they reach 8 years old there is less choice as some brands run out of them. In that case we can service the appliance. In some cases generic parts may be available. We always check the date of manufacture to id how old the appliance is.
Gas Service Call Appliance Parts
If a gas appliance needs parts or we need info on the appliance we contact the importer or agent sometimes in New Zealand or Australia.
Gas Appliances at the End of their Economic Life
Where appliances are at the end of their economic life we offer replacement appliances. There are times when it is better to put the money towards a new appliance where there is a guarantee. Guarantees by the supplier are usually around 3-5 years.
For new appliance like space heating and water heating new appliances are more efficient and often pay back the replacement due to being cheaper to operate.
Gas Certificates
On completion of a gas service call we issue a gas certificate where the installation is not unsafe. If the installation needs work a price will be given to make it safe.
Unsafe Appliances or Installations
If we note there are unsafe issues and you are not able to authorize us to make it safe we are obligated to make the installation safe by plugging off the gas meter or unsafe aspect until it is made safe.

Does My Gas Installation have to be Compliant?
If we install something new, like a new gas cook top or water heater we do the install in a way that is compliant with the installation standard. While we are there we check to see if your existing installation is not unsafe. Your existing installation may have been done to a previous and different standard. Just because it is done to a different standard does not mean it is unsafe. The installation was done to a previous standard but not the current one. An existing installation does not have to be updated to the new standard unless we are working on that part of it. How ever if the existing standard is deemed unsafe then we are required to make it safe. Usually this means plugging off that part of it.

Safety Check at Gas Service Calls
A safety check is the first part of any job.
Gas fitters start checking the following at the Gas Service Call-
- A gas pressure test at the gas meter to see if the system is leaking gas.
- Then a visual check on the piping looking for corrosion.
- A check under the building or inside to see if piping is secured and for corrosion.
- Then a check on appliances to determine fluing, ventilation and clearances. Eg are the products of combustion exiting the building, and are combustible materials protected from catching fire. We do this on all gas hobs space heaters, and water heaters. The time taken to do this is about 30 minutes.
- Are there any flammable liquids stored next to gas appliances eg in water heater cupboards.
