- Brick bond (half-offset) — classic, forgiving of slightly-out-of-square rooms
- Horizontal stack — clean, contemporary, makes rooms feel wider

- Vertical offset and vertical stack offset — modern, works well with long-format tiles
- Herringbone — feature floor or splashback
- Mosaic — for shower floors and feature strips

Waterproofing — The Part That Actually Matters
Tile doesn’t waterproof a bathroom — the membrane under the tile does. Skip it or do it badly and water gets into the framing; six months later the floor’s rotting and the ceiling below is stained.
